PAYE Modernisation

PAYE modernisation takes effect from 1 January 2019. From this date, employers will have to report payroll information to Revenue in “real-time” i.e. each time they pay their employees. The new system is intended to ensure that every time an employer runs their payroll:

  • The correct amount of deductions are being made at source from the employees remuneration,
  • The amount is reported to Revenue and
  • The appropriate payroll taxes are paid over by the employer.

Employees will be also be able to access payroll information relating to them through ‘My Account’, an online Revenue portal.

This new system means that employers can no longer correct or true up errors or omissions at the year-end as the P35 annual return will be abolished. Therefore, the last P35 that you will be required to file will be in respect of the year ended 31st December 2018.
