Tax Director, Mike Scanlan, shared his overview and analysis of Budget 2025 at our hybrid event on 2nd October 2024, alongside David McNamara, Chief Economist, AIB.
According to Mr. Scanlan, “Budget 2025 contained no major surprises as the Minster wanted the Budget to be a clear commitment that Ireland remains an attractive place to do business for both indigenous and foreign businesses.”
He further commented “Armed with a significant Budget surplus the Minister announced a tax package of €1.4bn aimed mainly at changes to Income Tax and USC rates which should result in a tax saving of circa €1,000 for most people. A cost of living package of €2.2bn was also announced, including Income Supports, social welfare increases and once off payments, to try and combat the ongoing cost of living pressures faced by the general population as we head towards an imminent general election.”
In summarising his views in terms of the economic outlook, David McNamara, further noted that “the Irish economy is still performing well relative to our European and Global counterparts with the outlook in the short term remaining positive. We do need to protect ourselves against potential economic headwinds on the horizon and the commitment to having €16bn in the newly created sovereign wealth funds by end-2025 is to be welcomed.”
